Leithian's mother made her way to a clan of Dalish from her downtrodden life in Halamshiral, fell in love with one of them and even gave her only child one of their names, but she was never one of them. The rest of her time with them they spent half-pitying and half-loathing her, this helpless flat-ear who couldn't even skin a rabbit, who had lost everything in their eyes that made her truly elven.
As for her daughter, she grew up of two minds about her mother. But she kept her counsel to herself and learned to walk in her father's footsteps as a hunter for the clan. She was elven, she knew. She was truly Dalish.
Her magic bloomed late, the earth only crackling beneath her palms when she was fifteen. Perhaps the magic slept within her longer because of her mother's blood, a truth she couldn't outrun. She was Dalish, and she was not. But she was gifted, and so the Keeper taught her what must be taught.
Now, for a reason known only to herself, she walks among humans, an eternal child: for she never received her vallaslin.

[attr="class","bb"]Named for the old dead ways and the old dead gods, Leithian was the child of one of those sad, strange city elves who run to the Dalish. The kind who think there is freedom in the woods, who think there's anything out there for them but a lonelier kind of life.
