Determined: Nature is a cruel mother, giving her children very little second chances. So when she presents an opportunity it has to be taken right away and, as one of the land’s more able offspring, Mira understands this concept well. Fighting for the limited resources available nestled between the city of Kirkwall and it's surrounding lands, Mira has developed a dogmatic personality. When she sees something she wants, the elf hunts it down in a way that flirts with obsession. It becomes a single-minded goal that either ends in success or failure costing a heavy price.
Ruthless: Death happens. It happens in the wild, it happens in the civilians of humans and other races, it even happens inside of us on a daily basis, so why should we falter at it? If someone is threatening her people or Mira is given an order to attack, mercy will be far from her mind. This is not to say that Mira goes looking for a fight or even that she enjoys killing- she simply won’t bulk at the idea unlike other warriors. Mira is particularly unforgiving towards humans, this anger growing as she dwells in the City of Chains.
Serious: Perhaps, once again, the land is partially due to blame for Mira’s stoic demeanor. Her world is a serious one bordering on the constant line between life and death as her Clan lived a nomadic life. So maybe it makes sense that Mira is a serious person. For her, the only ones who should act like jovial children are children and that adults, warriors, should know better. Mira also takes the time to think before she attacks as she takes her fights earnestly and therefore treats them with the due caution they deserve.
Defender: Mira is a defender of nature and her people, fighting hard and strong for it. She is willing to lose blood over the Clan that she pledges herself to. And like the knights of the human’s history, Mira holds the same sense of duty and love to her kind that knights do to their kingdom and she wouldn’t turn against her kind for anything or anyone. She values an elf's life over that of another race.
Prejudice: Humans killed Mira's father. They injured her pregnant mother, leaving her enough will to live to give birth to Mira before disappearing in grief. That being said, Mira never started on the right foot with Shemlen and her hatred only festered as she grew. Any chance Mira had, she would kill humans who trespassed on nature's land or threatened any member of her Clan. She judged harshly and quickly, snapping instantly to critical stereotypes and dislike. This prejudice worsened when humans led her and Tamlen to a mirror that killed her lover and infected Mira with the taint. Then, in order to save her, the Grey Warden (also human) Duncan took an unwilling Mira far away from her Clan. Now, living in Kirkwall and seeing the statues of slavery and oppression has done little to help cool Mira's anger. Note: She is less hostile to human mages as they too are locked up like her people once were.
Likes: Hunting, nature, archery, Dalish pride
Dislikes: Humans, slavery, Grey Wardens, close combat
Other: Mira has a four inch red scar near her right hip (clearly visible when wearing Dalish armor) that trails from hipbone diagonally to point at her belly button. When asked about this by anyone Mira becomes rather defensive and will avoid answering the question.
Her age, relatively young compared to other adventurers and warriors, is apparent in her almost childish prejudice yet Mira is understandably talented in her own realm of tracking and hunting
Her vallaslin looks like this and is a light pink color.
History: It takes a village to raise a child and Mira Mahariel is no exception other than the fact that her Clan had little choice in that regard. Mira’s father was the Clan’s former Keeper who was well known for his levelheadedness and only faulted for his love of a hunter woman from a different Clan. Tragedy struck, however, when Mira’s father and mother were ambushed by a group of humans. They killed her father and nearly did the same to her mother, but her mother eventually escaped, living long enough to give birth to Mira before disappearing to wallow in her own grief. That being said, Mira never knew her parents but she was raised well and loved by her clan nevertheless.
Since learning what happened to her parents and seeing the barbarity of Shemlen firsthand, Mira has become completely void of compassion for the human race and openly hostile to humans and their believes. When she came of age in her Clan, earning her vallaslin, or blood writing face tattoo, Mira often hunted in the woods with her partner and childhood friend Tamlen. The pair had a close relationship together and most of the Clan knew they would eventually bond when the time came. When Tamlen and Mira ran across any humans during their hunting trip they would kill them without hesitation. Shems were not to be trusted as they only brought destruction. The pair were also adventurous, getting into all sorts of trouble but also unearthing great cultural artifacts for the Keeper. Understandably, the Keeper had a love/hate relationship for her young hunters.
Mira’s devotion to her Clan and her love for Tamlen eventually became her downfall when she and Tamlen found a tainted mirror deep in the forest. The mirror transmitted the Darkspawn taint to both of them, knocking Mira unconscious. Eventually, after being rescued by Duncan, Mira was informed that all hope was lost for Tamlen and she would die unless she enlisted into the Grey Wardens. Mira protested, stating that was the last thing she wanted but her Keeper and Clan forced her to go, leaving Mira no other option than to depart from everything she had even known and loved.
Realizing that being a Grey Warden was the last thing his new recruit wanted, Duncan did not ship Mira off to Ostagar. Regardless of how desperate the host there needed Wardens, Duncan had a feeling that Mira would try to escape, so near was her Clan's current position to Ostagar. Instead the man sent her farther north in Ferelden where eventually the Dalish was stationed. When news of Ostagar's fall and the slanderous rumors about the Grey Wardens reached Mira's outpost, the elf knew what she had to do. This would be the perfect time for her to flee. Warden life did not agree with her nor did Mira fancy their customs or eventual place of death in the dwarven Deep Roads. All she wanted was to find her Clan once again.
Slipping away from her base, Mira traveled back south, following the nomadic route of her Clan, believing this would be the route they would take. It was then that even more rumors trickled down to her ears, people whispering about a pair of Wardens and their hodgepodge gang of companions who were brewing some sort of plan in Ferelden. Yet Mira cared not of them. Survivors of Ostagar? Good for them. If they wanted to spend months trying to defeat the Blight, then so be it. Mira had only one goal in mind.
Yet as the Blight started to reach it's climax and the assault on Denerim took place, Mira still had not found her Clan. Time was also running out for the Dalish as stability returned to Ferelden and a queen ruled once more. Now the Wardens were coming back to Ferelden and they did not let one of their own escape that easily. Hunted down, Mira was brought back into the ranks of a Warden, once again against her will. She served them reluctantly as time past until one day she overheard the talk of something peculiar happening in Kirkwall.
A Champion who took company with elves and dwarves alike. Mira hounded her superiors for the details, her gut instinct confirmed when they finally described in detail one of the 'wild' magic using elves. Mira instantly recognized Merrill form the description, remembering the First in their last moments together as Mira was stripped from her home. But that had been years ago. Yet, Mira's Clan being in Kirkwall for whatever reason did make sense for the young hunter had searched everywhere in Ferelden and had never found them.
It took a lot of persuading and even more time for Mira to convince her leaders to transfer her over to Kirkwall and by then the city had fallen into disarray with the 'disappearance' of the Champion. Yet, now that Mira is stationed in this new place she has yet to find any trace of her old Clan or Merrill- or even the Champion or any companions of the Champion who knew Merrill- and now doubt is starting to plague Mira's mind. She is mired in the duties of the Grey Wardens, longing to escape but only needed to find a way how.
It is possible, isn't it?
But more rumors have reached Mira's ears and now talk that both Warden and Champion have vanished and something else is brewing. Something that could threaten just more than Mira and her missing Clan.
