Part of it is because she's flighty by nature, and part of it is because she woke up one day and realized what a lonely life it really is. Whatever the case she found she was ultimately much happier on the run with little time to be introspective. She hates that existential shit. She spends her days traveling Thedas, ripping people off and running from ex-colleagues and clients alike. you don't even want to know what kind of "the killers" listening binge i went on after accepting her app, you really don't. ANYWAY SUP, i got some chars to throw at you.
Gabriel my asshole Grey Warden mage. A fellow fan of hating existential shit and definitely a big fan of ripping people off, along with his other hobbies of being a jerk, finding the worst things amusing and getting drunk and fighting people with magical fire. I actually have the weird feeling that they might have the potential to be friends? Or at least have fun together. Depending on exactly how she's ripping people off, I could see them running into each other--hell, maybe he's one of the people she ripped off?
Leithian is my Dalish elf who is also constantly on the move, although for vaguely different reasons. (She's an apostate who abandoned her clan, so yeah. Not too wise to settle anywhere for good.) She's got the Dalish superiority down pat, but she does have a bit of a soft spot for city elves, and a tendency to approach other elves. No guarantee they'd get along, but she'd be willing to try it at least, and if Elodi ever wanted a magical favor, Leithian would probably have a hard time saying no to another elf.
She mostly works as a barkeep as she moves from town to town, country to country, so perhaps they meet there? Or we could go the more slapstick-y route of templars chasing Leithian while bards from the order chase Elodi and they all crash into each other. IDK I'm cool w all ideas, I really am.

so uh. i got an apostate mage who's kind of just wandering thedas right now in search of information and a grey warden dalish elf with the biggest bleeding heart in thedas. please let me know if you would like to do anything with them! pls i am awful at this plotting thing. although i think it would be p hilarious if your bard and my apostate just kind of ended up being together in the same place bc they are being chased and a half rotten tree stump was big enough for the two of them to hide behind or something
actually it might be p funny if elodi ever pocketed something important like grey warden papers from alya and they ran through the streets of orlais in one big chase scene before she finally catches up enough to yell YOU CAN'T ACTUALLY SELL THAT INFO SINCE THE GREY WARDENS DON'T REALLY HAVE WEALTHY ENEMIES
also HAVE MY ORLESIAN BARD. freya doesnt spend a TON of time in orlais considering that she's still wanted for murder, but if elodi is a merchant then i doubt that's gonna be a problem. maybe they even knew each other in their youth!! i mean they are only one year apart. honestly freya is one of those people who is plagued with more existential shit than she cares to deal with. i mean she doesn't get to sing orlesian songs without believing them a little herself. i think hanging out with elodi might be a welcome change of pace. seriously please give me ex-bard bffs

Gabriel + Elodi "finding the worst things amusing" they would actually get along amazingly omg. her brand of ripping people off (currently) mostly takes the form of her passing off (very convincing) knock offs of dalish relics and goods supposedly retrieved from expeditions into thaigs. she's learned that if you have a good enough story for where and how you got something people will usually eat that shit up as far as the fake relics go. she also is in the business of selling information, because it's what she was trained a do and is a good money maker obvs.
maybe she sold him a dud or promised him a shipment of lyrium and ended up not delivering because she found someone who paid more for it along the way to deliver it and he ended up with mostly shiny rocks instead?? or she was just contracted to get info and withheld bits because once again, higher paying bidder came along. if and when he confronted her about it she played the victim made sad eyes, and was then like lemme buy you a drink to make up for it WHAT IM REALLY TRYING TO SAY IS they should definitely get drunk together because she'd enable his terrible behavior and encourage him in his (literal) pub firefights.
but i think a friendship between them would be really neat, partly cause he's basically her kind of her people, no pressure no obligations, just debauchery and therefore not too much to think about. and she's also got this super romanticized image of the grey wardens from stories she heard as a kid and gabriel kind of completely destroys that image so it'd be p interesting for her. Leithian + Elodi
Elodi has somhow always managed to feel more comfortable in the presence of every other race but elves, so i think some kind of camaraderie/friendship between these two would be rly good for her. both routes work for me im suuper indecisive though, chase sequence is really great just because elodi literally lives for this kind of stuff and when they finally lose their pursuers or w/e she'd literally turn to leithian and be like "wow! wasn't that great!! that's the kind of stuff that keeps you young!!"
bar scenario is really great too because i can imagine elodi kind of trying to play it cool and lose whoever's tailing her in whatever pub leithian happens to be working in, and for all that she complains about other elves elodi's first instinct would definitely be to turn the first elf she sees for help or whatever or at the very least someone to help her blend in with the crowd.
Mark + Elodithat's kind of a perf mental image, cue elodi being like "umm excuse me this is my hiding spot, who are YOU" in her snootiest orlesian accent even though the spot is totally big enough to hide the two of them and she nearly gives them away because she's been needlessly difficult. i think she'd enjoy how sneaky mark is and find comfort in that because she honestly finds it easier to read people who are dishonest than people who are transparent in the things that they do (even tho she left the bard order because not being able to trust anyone made here paranoid but w/e).
but maybe she could occasionally help him out in retrieving info about his family once they're acquainted?? i could see her passing on info she managed to stumble across in her travels, and if it's in the form of a letter she'd always fill them with really unnecessary irrelevant info about her life for pages upon pages before she finally gets to the actual important info and im just rambling at this point oops. but yea friends?? possibly?? Alya + Elodi Alya is the actual cutest and oh my god cue elodi trying to save face and make up some bs about how acquiring information for the sake of having information is the greatest reward in and of itself or s/t. but i think elodi would be like?? mystified by alya for lack of a better word because she's just sooo different from anyone she's ever known considering her previous line of work. she'd honestly just spend so much time poking at alya's brain and trying to unravel it because existentialism is fine when it's someone else and not her thoughts and moral processes on the chopping block. like tbh i think alya would actually fluster her somewhat cause like i said she's not used to dealing with people who are so transparent in what they do and moral convictions?? what are those?? Freya + Elodi THEM HAVING BEEN BABY BARDS TOGETHER IS PERF and elodi very rarely makes trips into orlais because thats basically like walking into the lions den for her too so its all good. im totally down with ex-bard bffs, the bard order made elodi super paranoid so while freya may have been one of her better friends theres always that fear in the back of your mind that someone will throw you under the bus to further their own goals and i dont think elodi has been able to escape that even if neither of them are really "with" the order anymore so seeing how that plays out w/ their friendship would be really cool.
them being opposites as far how much they really think about the things they do and why is THE BEST because elodi would def try and get freya to quiet her mind for a bit, freya would probably unintentionally make elodi think about things she's probably (attempted to) permanently put on the back burner. this is all rly rambly im sorry im sleepy.

mark - HAHA yes i think that would work rly well like. he can fight off her enemies or smth if they see him with her and assume that they're together. and then she can maybe distract the templars since his magic doesn't work so hot on them. i mean he's a blood mage who can literally turn them into a sack of blood in five seconds but he would prefer not to do that.
and yesss dude all i do with mark is play mind games with my favorite characters. i mean there is a part of him that is excessively secretive but he can also be a deadpan snarker who tells jokes at really inopportune moments. i think it would be an interesting combo
ngl i think he would actually enjoy those four page letters and keep them lmao. i mean the things that she hears and sees will only help him survive thedas. that, and he can appreciate a witty writer with a fresh perspective.

yeah so she is a total dork. i think she would be a nice change in pace friend!!! shes that girl who has a lot of integrity and generosity and keeps every promise shes ever made. a tad naive sometimes, but that never stopped her from moving forward so whatevs. alya is very open in terms of racially or culturally different friends but she also understands the kind of...burden that comes with being an elf with these FIVE MILLION expectations!! i think it would be interesting since for all that dalish are lauded as the 'true elves', that was never what alya wanted to be. she was a super rebellious child who just wanted to be alya. herself. i think they could be really good kindred spirits
tbqh alya is literally a huge open book who will talk your ear off so all that brain prodding probably won't be too necessary lmao. literally don't...don't side eye me if i end up giving u posts that are like 70 percent dialogue....

oh my god you know freya was raised by a ferelden father so i'm thinking that she would have needed a lot of help learning the orlesian language AND NOW IM JUST IMAGINING ONE BABY BARD TRYING TO TEACH ORLESIAN TO ANOTHER BABY BARD......SO CUTE...
but yeah freya totally gets what it means to be a bard and totally does not mind that elodi might never trust her 100 percent i mean she is basically no better. i think that's why she decided to freelance for awhile. killing things is simple. killing things is easy. everyone understands betrayal when the knife goes through their back, and there's never any doubt at that moment.
but yeah im about to write a post for a plot where freya is contracted by the chantry to manage and groom a literal killing machine of a man, so maybe that could be a topic of discussion for them in our first thread? they can have a good think about what it means to be groomed for the ambitions of others and being a weapon and all that heavy stuff. it could be fun!!!

Gabriel & Elodi Omfg yes, I bet Gabriel was so smug about getting a cut-rate deal on lyrium supplied for the Wardens and rubbed it in everyone's face and then it arrived and was utterly useless trash. He was probably more impressed than he was angry, by a tiny bit. Sad puppy eyes and enabling is everything I want in a friendship with Gabriel. Please. Please give me this.
Also if they became good enough friends he'd definitely help her with her stories and ancient fake relics. He'd probably find it all incredibly fun. The clash between her idea of Grey Wardens and what Gabriel, uh, actually is could also be really interesting/real. Do you want to hop straight to post-lyrium debacle chase + bar shenanigans to start off with, or go all the way back to the start?
Leithian & Elodi I vote chase sequence because I am biased I love action-adventure threads. I love. I have nothing more to say except I love.

winkus at you perfection inspires perfection obvs Mark + Elodi OK BUT WHEN SHE FINDS OUT HE'S A BLOOD MAGE she's going to be tugging on his sleeves and asking him to turn people inside out for her left and right. templars and local authorities assuming they're like bonnie and clyde or something, and she's just like what?? i barely know him?? who is he?? where am i?? blood magic??? before the inevitable battle sequence with their pursuers. but YEAH she greatly enjoys his friendship even if she does try and pretend not to know him (i feel like thats going to become a running gag..) Maeve is my city elf who grew up in val royaeux!! and they're about the same age!! and maeve fucking hates humans even if she's good enough at not showing it to survive oops. so uh. yeah if you'd want them to have known each other if they got along at all it'd probably be in a weird af way maybe? like next thing elodi knows maeve is in her house snacking on her food bc she can afford to spare a little right? and maybe maeve would feed elodi some info she thought she could make a profit off of bc hey a fellow elf is a fellow elf even if elodi isn't particularly nice. the point being maeve doesn't probably know how to friend due to being cut off as much as possible once her magic showed to keep that a secret. maeve's probably pretty naiive on this front for the longest time so like maybe elodi can break her out of the ~elves always stick together~ for survival purposes idk.
ofc they could also have just. not gotten along. at all. which could always be just as fun to thread who knows.
i also have a vashoth/'qunari' mercenary lady and a tevinter magister w a big hand in the slave trade so if either of those interest you please lmk but i can't think of anything more

oh fuck *swoons someone catch me pls* cries gigi u make me think so much about my characters... ur so great.... mark - tbh i have a feeling that after she first sees him performing blood magic, the first thing he's gonna ask is "ok but what's really stopping me from turning -you- into a sack of blood anyway" altho tbh she doesnt have much to worry about. not being prone to power trips is one of the things that's prevented him from turning into a hideous abomination over the past ten years too so. plus, using the magic in front of anyone is like... way riskier for him considering how much everyone hates blood mages lmao basically he realizes that this deal probs benefits her way more than it does for him. at the same time i feel like he can also be easily bribed with food or something if it's just regular ol' elemental or force magic, he's definitely not above crushing a few enemies for shits and giggles tho if they're good enough friends at some point, i can see him using his blood magic to save her life and shit. especially if he finds her to be too valuable to him alive than dead (by which i mean too amusing). in the meantime i can see her like...dangling candied apples in front of him or something and he just kind of signs and goes like 'you know me too well, elodi' tbh he would act like he doesn't take it too personally if she pretended not to know him bc like...i mean he's a fuckin malaficarum so HE would be pretending not to know himself if their positions were switched. except it kind of hurts his kokoro a little since i mean that's the whole reason he was banished to the ferelden circle to begin with HE ADMITS NOTHING.... mostly i think he would appreciate a friend who doesn't take him TOO seriously. man half the time i cant decide if hes kinda evil or just a huge dork alya - TBH i feel like chronologically it would make more sense for the merchant scene to come first. like that's how they meet and maybe elodi gets the vague impression that this is a Very Important Elf and ends up nicking her paper once customers clear out. and then alya is like "NOOOOO PLEASE DONT MY COMMANDER WILL KILL ME..." which makes it seem like she's taken ahold of some SUPER VALUABLE military secrets or something lmaooooo tbh alya is not super pushy about her morals since she's lived with enough of that during her days with her dalish clan. that, and she's seen the shit that city elves have had to pull to survive. she just...kind of ruins their business transactions by TOTAL OBLIVIOUS ACCIDENTS sometimes. i mean tbh if she's mostly ripping off rich people then alya probs won't say much but iF IT'S A CITY ELF...that's like approval -10 right there. to some extent humans being assholes to elves is kinda expected (and awful) but ripping off other elves is just SUCH BETRAYAL...HOW COULD U... but yes p lS tsun give us our three way thread (altho i have a feeling that alya will just spend most of her time making fun of orlesians in that case. okay, mostly gabriel but also orlesians. and hi-fiving elodi about those silly humans until the conversation turns to grey wardens lmao) freya - tbh when i think about it i'm starting to wonder how much freya would really trust elodi ever since her former (possibly lover?  ?? who knows) master betrayed her and left her for dead in prison. but at the same time if they share a history then freya would def value some of her input either way and they can have a convo about heavy bard stuff yea yea UM i can start the first one and u can start the others. i wouldn't say im busy in the sense that i knock out posts rly fast but tsun also has a tendency of giving me like a hundred at once... |

Isidora && Elodi
So, Isidora is the First for her clan! Like pretty much any clan, they move around a lot. They mostly stick around the Ferelden/Orlais border, usually more in Ferelden than anywhere else. Anyway, Isidora is pretty kind towards City Elves. She really pities their situation and would like nothing more than to invite them into her clan -- even though she really doesn't have that authority. Don't steal from her and her clan though.
Anyway, if Elodi ran into Isidora and her clan Isidora'd be more than happy to give her a hand with whatever. Probably try to tell her some of the stories she knows and not so subtly try to bring her into the clan. Because obviously Elodi is a poor City Elf that just doesn't get it. I don't know this sounded better in my head. Otherwise Isidora could run into her alone while hunting. Probably go defensive for a moment and start the whole "One With Nature" shizz. Then calm down when she realizes it's an elf. I don't know. Like I said, better in my head!

shhh its ok youre good maeve is a total cutie and i'm totally down w/ everything you've got. elodi is really similar to maeve in that she's honestly kind of weirdly sheltered. like growing up her only real companions were her adopted fathers and neither of them were elves, and then there were her bard companions who barely counted as like "normal" relationships so she's not exactly the most socially well adjusted person. she never really got the hang of alienage culture or being around other elves because she honestly just spent like no time with them (her identity as an elf is like non-existent) so maeve would be a (secretly) welcome companion in her house even if she would side eye her a bit because of i guess how idealistic she would seem to elodi??
really elodi just doesnt think about things like structural violence and revolutions, things are the way they are to her no sense in getting riled up about them! which might annoy maeve but i think they could be kind of bizarre companions?? alienage babies who aren't the best at socializing.
elodi would also definitely test her whole elves should stick together mentality, since she never grew up with them around she honestly feels very little camaraderie and she's a selfish person by nature and an instigator so i could def see her pushing maeve's buttons on that front haha
but omg i will def hit up your plotter for the others cause they're total babes

no omg ur great izzy is great!! elodi has very little experience with the dalish so this is fab, she has a hard time wrapping her head around other elves in general just because she didn't grow up with them at all and honestly has no sense of identity as one. but of all elven things the dalish are definitely what confuse her the most (she gets the whole superiority thing but she also REALLY DOESN'T GET IT because it seems so logically divisive) but i could totes see her running into isidora in some nondescript forest while fleeing ex-bard companions or ex-clients who have it out for her since she left the bard order!
elodi would obviously take help from her since she offered cause even though she herself lacks any sort of camaraderie with other elves she'll totally reap the benefits of the whole elves stick together mentality. and then y'know once isidora shows her some sympathy helps hide her, or patch her up or w/e she'd totally sit around and give her the third degree about that whole dalish superiority thing just for kicks cause she's a dirty instigator.

I honestly love this. Yeah, Isidora would be more than happy to cover an escape, or simply help guide her further out of one. A bit of Keeper magic and the whole forest is on her side, so that could be easily managed!
Otherwise yeah, I like the idea of Isidora helping her out and Elodi grilling her on the aspects of Dalish culture. She'll be more than happy to explain why the "Shemlen" are beneath them. Along with some stories about the gods and Dalish life in general. In return she'll probably ask Elodi to describe some of her life and tell her a bit about the humans. Because even though she hates them she's still got a voracious mind that loves to learn.

i'm totally up for flashback threads here if you are, though idrk where. first meeting?? first time maeve shows up in elodi's home?? third time? fifteenth? random something just to get a feel for how they interacted?? idk but i am all for all of this especially maeve's buttons getting pushed.
also if elodi never found out maeve was a mage that might make for an, uh, interesting reunion thread eventually after maeve leaves val royaeux? possibly all big eyes and "what do you mean i never told you??" after all that time of probably insisting that she wouldn't be able to keep a secret if it meant her life l-lol

yeah that's fine with me tsun! and you can make the thread with leithian anywhere too elodi travels enough for it to basically be ok anywhere. maeve + elodi

oh god eventual reveal of maeve being a mage, and elodi being as self-centered as she is is angry because she can't believe she didn't figure it out years ago. she always knew something was off about maeve but never expect this and shes like god all the pieces were there!! how did i not!!
