There's nothing wrong with the idea of freedom. Everyone deserves to be free, at least that's what Yaakov's mother told him. They were both apostates, her mother a circle escapee and he, being born free from the circle. His mother ran off to the Dalish, and Yaakov was born there but it was clear that they didn't, and never would belong. Yaakov had a chance of being more accepted, being a Keeper's First as his magical powers manifested. Except, his clan already had a First, and he refused to be ripped from his mother to join another clan.
The two left when Yaakov was four, moved to the city, and led secretive lonely lives. Yaakov, despite having a rather outgoing personalty fadhfjd finish later
